If you're on a budget like me, you might find the job of decorating your house a little daunting. My hubby and I are so blessed to have a good sized home but I often look around and feel a little overwhelmed at all of the space I have to fill! One thing I know though.. You do not have to spend hundreds of dollars to create a beautiful and welcoming home. Here are a few tips and tricks that have helped me.
1. Search the Clearance Shelves
You will be shocked at what you can find on a clearance shelf, even in a more expensive, high end shop. One of my favorite little finds is a small chalkboard label canister that was missing its lid. $1 later and it is now sitting in my kitchen holding my striped paper straws!
2. Learn Your Thrift Stores
This is a HUGE help! Thrift stores often have weekly specials and sales and a good priced item can become dirt cheap really fast. One of my favorite local thrift shops has the best furniture at the best prices, plus they put it all on a 50% off sale every Friday! Because of this, I was able to score my huge, retro style office desk for $15.
3. Don't Be Afraid To Paint
Don't dismiss something at first sight! A little paint can work wonders on an old piece of furniture. We pulled our bedside tables out of an old shed and I was able to use some Miss Mustard Seed milk paint to give them a little face lift. Free side tables + $12 worth of paint is a win in my book.. Plus I love how they turned out!
4. Shop Your Home
Sometimes that little thing your looking for can be found in another room of your very own house! I'm always swapping things around and finding new places for them. It helps keep things fresh and stops you from spending money on something you may already have laying around somewhere.
5. Be Patient
Working on a budget obviously means you can't just go to a store and buy everything you want for your home all at once, so decorating tends to move pretty slow. Don't settle for something you don't really want but have patience in searching for that perfect piece to complete your home!
Even when working on a small budget, you can still create a beautiful home for you and those you love. It's not about how much you can spend, but what you can do with what you have.
